My politics will end with Laluji: Shahabuddin

Patna, Sept 11 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): Mighty RJD politician Mohammad Shahabuddin on Sunday reiterated that JD-U leader Nitish Kumar was a chief minister "by circumstances", taking no notice of brouhaha over his remarks.

“He is a CM by circumstances. What I mean by ‘circumstances’ is that he has been able to become CM only by someone’s support every time. Why can’t one say this when someone with merely 3-4 percent votes becomes a CM?” Shahabuddin told a TV News Channel on Sunday.

He came out of jail after 11 years on Saturday.

He also expressed both shock and surprise over the way the RJD despite majority of seats in Bihar assembly doesn’t have its chief minister.

“We have majority of seats (in the state assembly). The existing practice too has been that the party with maximum number of seats will have its CM…,” he remarked.

He also reiterated RJD Lalu Prasad was his leader whom he follows in politics, and none else.

“I have been with Laluji and my politics will end with Laluji,” he declared.

Shahabuddin, however, praised Nitish for imposing liquor ban in the state but termed the prohibition laws as “Andha Kanoon”.

“Instead of enacting such harsh laws, he should have launched an intensive campaign against it. You know drinking is ‘haram’(strictly prohibited) in Islam. Roughly about 15 percent Muslims drink. A systematic campaign should have been launched to make the society quit drinking on its own,” he observed.

He also announced to meet the family of slain journalist Rajdeo Ranjan who was shot dead by criminals in May this year.

“My name was unnecessarily linked with the murder case and now some leaders are taking his (slain journalist’s) widow from Home Minister to Prime Minister. The issue is totally political. I have deep sympathy with Rajdeo family and will meet his family very soon,” he announced.
