Mumbai hooch tragedy toll touches 90

Mumbai, June 20 (IBNS): The death toll in Mumbai's Malvani hooch tragedy has touched 90 while several others , who had consumed spurious liquor, are battling for life in hospital, reports said on Saturday.

Reports said Mumbai police have so far arrested five people, including the one who had allegedly distributed the alcohol. The others were suppliers.

Four excise department officials have also been suspended in the case for negligence.
All the accused have been remanded to police custody till July 26.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria on Friday suspended eight police officers at Malvani police station, including senior inspector Prakash Patil in connection with the incident.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a probe into the hooch tragedy.

On Wednesday, the victims consumed liquor at a shop in Malvani and fell sick the next morning.
