Modi visits museum, temple in Xi'an on arrival in China

Xi'an, China, May 14 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the famous Daxingshan temple and a museum after he arrived China to a warm reception.

"Hello from Xi'an, China. Landed to a warm welcome followed by a spectacular visit to the terracotta warrior museum," he tweeted.

Modi is on a three-day visit to China. The ancient town of  Xi'an is the home of Chinese President XI Jinping.

He was taken for a visit to Daxingshan temple which he found "beautiful."

"Daxingshan temple is beautiful.Visited various halls of the temple and interacted with monks," Modi tweeted.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted, "Traversing centuries. From the 2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE."

Modi had earlier  paid a visit to the historic Terracotta Warriors Museum. He also wrote in the visitor's book of the historical site.


China is said to be attaching considerable importance to Modi's visit.

The Prime Minister will hold talks with President Xi in the afternoon. He will also visit the famous Wild Goose Pagoda, the spiritual structure built to highlight famous Chinese Buddhist monk Xuan Zang's journey to India in 645 AD through the ancient Silk Road.

Modi's formal talks with the Chinese leadership will take place on Friday in Beijing.
