Modi, Obama vow to dismantle terror network, cooperate on nuclear energy

Washington, Sept 30 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Barack Obama in the White House where the two leaders held bilateral talks on Tuesday focusing on energy, defence, security and infrastructure and vowed to dismantle the network of terror.

At the end of the meeting PM Modi in a joint press event with Obama called the two countries as natural partners.

"India-US will work together on disrupting financial & tactical support for LeT, JeM, D-company & Haqqani network," tweeted the Ministry of External Affairs quoting Modi. 
 
Modi said India and USA have agreed on joint and concerted efforts, including dismantling of safe havens for terrorist and criminal networks.
 
India-US Group will address all implementation issues to speed up deployment of US origin nuclear reactors in India, said Modi.

"We are serious about resolution of issues on both sides to enable civil nuclear energy cooperation to take off," said the Indian PM.
 
He said India and USA will decide to renew Framework Agreement for defence cooperation for a further 10 years.
 
US will cooperate as knowledge partner for India's planned National Defence University.

On Afghanistan, Modi said: "We both are committed to helping Afghanistan and improving our coordination in this area."

Earlier, Modi addressing media in a lighter vein said "after India-US Summit on Mars, we are meeting here on earth."

He said infrastructure platform will facilitate US & Indian firms in expanding infrastructure projects.
 
USA will also be the lead partner in developing Indian urban centres like Allahabad, Ajmer  & Vizag as Smart Cities.
  
Modi said he was 'glad' to meet the US President in the early phase of his tenure.

" I am thankful to President Obama for his warm welcome. I am glad to have been able to meet the President in the early part of my tenure," Modi said.

"President Obama and I talked about economic issues. Our economic relations will improve even further," he said.

Speaking on his meeting with the President, he said: "We had an open discussion on WTO issue. We support trade facilitation but a solution that takes care of our food security must be found."

Modi also invited Obama and his family to visit India.

Obama said he is looking forward to building upon relationship with India.
