Modi-Obama address special episode of Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi, Jan 27 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Barack Obama on Tuesday addressed a joint radio address, hours after the US president left India after a three-day visit to the Asian nation, as the leaders answered several questions asked by people earlier.

Addressing  the special edition of Modi's monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' (from the heart),Obama appreciated the Indian Prime Minister's 'strong personal commitment to improve ties between our countries'.

"India and the US are natural partners, because we have so much in common," he said in the recorded episode.

Speaking on the episode, Obama said: "I’m told that this is also the first ever Radio address by an Indian Prime Minister and an American President together, so we’re making a lot of history in a short time."

Modi said the US president's life and the way he has raised his daughters will serve as an inspiration for  Indians.

"President Obama's life, the way he has raised his daughters will serve as an inspiration for us," Modi said.

Both Obama and Modi said they never thought they would be able to become the leaders of their respective nations.

"When I first when to White House I stood outside the same fence & never imagined I would visit there, forget living there," Obama said.

"A tea seller or some one born to a single mother lead our nations. An example of extra ordinary opportunities in our nations," the US President said referring to their backgrounds.

Speaking on his experience of becoming the Prime Minister of India, Modi said: "No, I never imagined it (that I will reach where I am today)."

Modi said the life of  one of the Founding Fathers of the United States Benjamin Franklin inspired him.

Obama said his daughters are fascinated about India.

"Well first of all they very much wanted to come. They are fascinated by India, Unfortunately each time that I have taken a trip here, they had school and they couldn’t leave school. And in fact, Malia, my older daughter, had exams just recently. They are fascinated by the culture, and the history of India, in part because of my influence I think, they are deeply moved by India’s movement to Independence, and the role that Gandhi played, in not only the non-violent strategies here in India, but how those ended up influencing the non-violent Civil Rights Movement in the United States," he said.

"So when I go back I am going to tell them that India is as magnificent as they imagined. And I am quite sure that they are going to insist that I bring them back the next time I visit. It may not be during my Presidency, but afterwards they will definitely want to come and visit," he said

"And I will definitely do some shopping for them. Although I can’t go to the stores myself, so I have to have my team do the shopping for me. And I’ll get some advice from Michelle, because she probably has a better sense of what they would like," Obama said.

Modi invited Obama and his family to visit India again and said the country will be looking forward to 'welcome' them.

Modi said: "Barack said he will come with his daughters. I extend an invitation to you. Whether you come as President, or thereafter, India looks forward to welcoming you and your daughters."

Ending their three-day visit to India, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama  boarded their special Airforce One flight at around 1-55 pm.

The flight took off at around 2 pm from Palam Airport. Obamas are headed for Saudi Arabia to  offer  condolences for the death of King Abdullah.

Obama became the first US president to take part in the Republic Day parade of India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the visit the two leaders also had a breakthrough in the stalled civil nuclear deal.
