Modi minister faces court notice for rape

| | Jun 13, 2014, at 03:50 pm
Jaipur, June 13 (IBNS) A Jaipur district court has summoned Rajasthan's lone minister in the Narendra Modi government, Nihalchand Meghwal, in a 2011 rape case.

The court on Thursday slapped notices on the Ganganagar MP and 17 others in the case.

The victim, in her First Information Report (FIR) lodged in 2011, claimed that her husband drugged her and handed her over to his friends, including Minister of State (MoS) Chemicals and Fertilizers, Nihalchand Meghwal, who allegedly raped her.

However, in 2012, the Jaipur Police closed the case accusing the woman of fabricating the incident.

The woman then approached a district court which summoned Meghwal and 17 others to respond by Aug 20.

Meanwhile, the Congress has demanded Meghwal be sacked from his political post.

"Narendra Modi must immediately dismiss him" said Congress leader Sachin Pilot.
