Modi is disgrace to tea seller profession: Mani Shankar Aiyar

| | May 18, 2014, at 07:02 pm
New Delhi, May 18 (IBNS): Even as Narendra Modi is set to become the Prime Minister of India, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, who created a storm with his 'chai-wallah' barb at the BJP strongman, said the comparison with tea-seller is a disgrace for the latter.
"First I never used the word 'chai-wallah' and that remark has been distorted. I have the highest respect to the profession of chai-wallas that I just think that Modi is a disgrace to it," he said while speaking to CNN-IBN on Saturday.

Earlier this year, Mani Shankar Aiyar had created a political controversy by saying that Narendra Modi is only capable of becoming a tea stall vendor.

Addressing the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting, Aiyar had said: "Narendra Modi can never be the Prime Minister of India. However, if he wants, we can set up a tea stall for him here."
