Militants trigger IED explosion targeting army troop in Upper Assam

Guwahati, Aug 14 (IBNS) : A day before of Independence Day, suspected militants triggered an explosion in oil and tea rich upper Assam’s Sivsagar district, targeting the security troop on Sunday evening.

There are no reports of any casualties.

The explosion took place at Jalah area near Sonari in the Upper Assam district.

“A powerful IED exploded the area just few minutes after an army petrol team passed the area,” a police official said.

Top police and army officials rushed to the area and launched operation against the militants.

On the other hand, an IED weighing 4 kgs was recovered from the front of Forest Training School at Makum area in Tinsukia district.

Later army bomb squad team had defused the IED.

On Aug 13, security forces had recovered three live grenades and explosives from Rani area outskirts of Guwahati.

Meanwhile Assam DGP Mukesh Sahai said that, adequate security has been arranged across the state ahead of I-Day celebration.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will host the national flag at Khanapara field, where I-Day celebration has arranged centrally by the state government.
