Srinagar/UNI: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has been allegedly put under house arrest in Srinagar ahead of her planned visit to Surankote Poonch, a party spokesman said.

The party said Mehbooba was planning to visit Surankote to assess the situation and meet families of victims "killed in army custody."

The PDP posted a picture of the locked gate of Mehbooba's residence on X. There was no official version of the house arrest of the PDP chief.

The twin districts of Poonch-Rajouri area of Jammu region have been on the boil after four soldiers were killed in an ambush in Bufliaz village in Poonch on Thursday.

A day later three civilians who were allegedly picked up by the Army were found dead near the ambush site. Their relatives and political leaders have alleged that the three died due to "custodial torture".

The Army has ordered a thorough internal investigation into the deaths of three civilians in Poonch.

However, neither the Army nor the J&K government has denied the charges of custodial killings.
