Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma wins South Tura by-poll
Guwahati, Aug 27 (IBNS): Meghalaya Chief Minister and the chief of state’s ruling National Peoples’ Party (NPP), Conrad K Sangma, on Monday, won the South Tura by-election by defeating his nearest Congress rival Charlotte W Momin by over 8,400 votes.
With Conrad's win, the National People’s Party's members have increased in 60-member Meghalaya Legislative assembly.
The by-poll in South Tura assembly constituency was necessitated following the resignation of NPP legislator Agatha Sangma, to pave away her brother and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to contest from the constituency and being elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to continue in the role of the Chief Minister.
On the other hand, United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate, Pius Marwein, won the Ranikor by-poll.
Marwein defeated his nearest NPP rival, Martin M Danggo, by 3390 votes.
