MDMK chief Vaiko walks out of NDA

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IBNS): MDMK chief V Gopalaswamy or Vaiko on Monday walked out of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), days after he hit out at two BJP leaders for criticizing him over his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, media reports said.

“Being in NDA is untenable because of PM Modi’s policies,” Vaiko said.

Earlier, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had said that the MDMK should be thrown out of the NDA alliance in the state.  BJP National Secretary H Raja had also allegedly threatened Vaiko for criticizing the PM over several issues.

The MDMK chief had questioned PM Modi’s silence over the matter, sources said.

"I don't think Swamy and Raja are the only representatives of the party. But I am pained that even Amit Shah and Modi, he is a big leader and I'm a small person, did not even condemn this," Mr Vaiko said last Thursday.

Reports said NDA ally Ramadoss also hit out at Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj’s statement that the Bhagwat Gita should be declared the national book. He said: “It is improper to thrust the Gita on everyone in a secular country. This move will only give credence to arguments that the Modi government wants to turn India into a Hindu country.”

Ramadoss further said that PM Modi had done “nothing praiseworthy” in six months in office except language and cultural imposition.
