Kolkata, Jan 22 (IBNS): A major fire broke out at a marketplace in northern Kolkata's Gorabazar area on the wee hours of Monday, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first noticed at around 1:40 am. at Gorabazar market in north Dumdum and it spread quickly as several inflammable objects were stored there.

The blaze also caught a nationalized bank's branch office and few shops, which are located beside the market.

As many as 22 fire tenders along with a hydraulic ladder rushed to the scene and firemen fought for hours to douse the massive fire.

"We've brought the source of the fire under control. Our men are currently tackling pocket fires inside the market while cooling off process is also underway there," a senior official of state fire and emergency services department told IBNS.
