Manipur : 215 candidates file nominations for first phase polls

Guwahati, Feb 15 (IBNS): The first phase of Assembly Election in Manipur is scheduled for Mar 4, for which 215 candidates have filed nomination papers from 38 assembly constituencies.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur, Vivek Kumar Dewangan said in a press release that altogether 215 candidates have filed nomination papers, including 83 candidates who filed their papers on Tuesday.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the scrutiny of papers for the first phase polls will be held on Febr 16 and last date of withdrawal is February 18.

According to the CEO, Manipur, 24 candidates have also filed their nomination papers for the second phase polls to elect 22 legislators.

Manipur has faced a huge scarcity of essential commodities, petroleum products, medicines following economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) since November 1.

To end the economic blockade in this north eastern Indian state, the Union government has already deployed 16,000 troops to help the state government.
