Mamata Banerjee thanks Bengal's people after taking oath as Chief Minister
Kolkata, May 27 (IBNS): After swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister for her second consecutive term, Mamata Banerjee on Friday expressed her gratitude to the state's people for ensuring a massive victory in recently concluded assembly polls.
"Today, I thank the Ma-Mati-Manush of Bengal. Without their cooperation, good wishes and prayer, we could never take oath here. This is the victory of people and the win of Bengal," Mamata Banerjee said.
Promising to continue the good governance in the state, Banerjee further said, "A large number of national and international leaders joined our event today, which made the historic swearing-in-ceremony a successful programme. We will never forget this day. We are very happy today and grateful to them. I want dedicate this day to the people of Bengal. We will try our best to fulfil the dreams of general people."
Earlier in the afternoon, Mamata Banerjee along with 42 other ministers took oath at a ceremony at Kolkata's historic Red Road, in presence of West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, a large number of VVIPs, including Bhutan's Prime Minister, Bangladesh's Industry Minister, Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo, Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Jammu and Kashmir's former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, UP's Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and supporters.
Excluding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, there are 29 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charges and 8 Ministers of State in the newly formed West Bengal government.
Of the state Assembly's 294 seats, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress captured 211 to bring the state under the largest ever single party rule. The main opposition Left-Congress alliance managed 75 seats.
Meanwhile, all opposition parties from WB, including Left Front, Congress and state BJP, boycotted the programme.
Mamata Banerjee is currently holding the first cabinet meeting of the newly elected government along with her 42 ministers in Bengal's main administrative seat, Nabanna, to discuss the distribution of ministries.
