Kolkata, Jan 14 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday remembered late writer Mahaswetah Devi on her birth anniversary.

She tweeted: "Fondly remembering Mahashweta Di on her birth anniversary. In difficult times, she was a true inspiration for me and many others. We miss her. Apart from her literary contributions, her work for the tribals and the downtrodden continues to inspire us."

The Congress party also remembered the noted writer and posted: "Mahashweta Devi was a prolific writer and an activist who worked tirelessly for the rights of tribals in India. She received the Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan for her contributions in literature and society. We remember her today on her birth anniversary."
