Mamata Banerjee condoles five West Bengal tourists' death in Uttarakhand road accident

“Distressed to know of the death of 5 Bengal tourists in a road accident near Tehri on their way to Uttarkashi ( Uttarakhand),” Banerjee tweeted.

“Mobilised our officers here and at Delhi since last night to preserve the bodies at AIIMS Hrishikesh, fly relatives from here to Delhi and to transport them from there to Hrishikesh , to help bringing back the mortal remains here, to provide all retrieval assistance,” she said.

“Sincere condolences and full solidarity to the families,” the Chief Minister added.

Six people were killed after their vehicle lost control and fell into a deep gorge on the National Highway 94 near the border of Uttarkashi-Tehri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday, police said.

The vehicle caught fire after the fall. All the six passengers, including the driver of the vehicle, were killed in the mishap.

Apart from the driver, five other passengers were residents of West Bengal.

They were on their way to Yamunotri Darshan.

Five of the six deceased hailed from West Bengal.

The deceased were identified as Pradeep Das, a resident of 24 Parganas (West Bengal), Nilesh Bhunia, a resident of Kolkata, Madan Mohan Bhinia, his wife Jhumur Bhunia and Devmalya Dev Nath.

The driver of the vehicle, Ashish, son of Premdas, a resident of Mukhwa Patti of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, was also among the dead. Police have recovered the bodies of the deceased.

District officials said the Bolero car lost control and fell into a 100 meter deep ditch after breaking the parapet.
