Majuli: Sonowal presents award to meritorious students, lays foundation stone for district hospital

Guwahati, Mar 7 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Rs 22 crore upgrading Sri Sri Pitambardev Civil Hospital, Garmur, into a 200 bedded district civil hospital in a programme held at Majuli Milan Sangha at Kamalabari in Majuli.

In the same programme, Sonowal also ceremonially distributed Anundoram Baruah Award to meritorious students of Majuli who obtained star marks or above in the 2018 HSLC examination.

Altogether, 190 meritorious students of the district would receive laptops, sim cards with wifi device, Digital Academic Contents of classes XI and XII along with Online Learning, Coaching and Score Improvement System for appearing in competitive examinations for students of class XI and XII of Science stream under the award.

Speaking on the occasion, the Assam CM underlined the importance of education for leading a quality life and urged upon students to work hard to achieve success in their chosen field of work.

At the same time, he also called upon parents and teachers to induce moral and spiritual values amongst students.

Further highlighting the need of good and resourceful human beings to take forward the development journey of the state, Sonowal said that the state government has been taking up steps to provide better avenues for technical and advanced learning to students.

He informed that already six medical colleges, nine engineering colleges, 30 polytechnic institutes and 240 skill development centres are being set up keeping this in mind.

Besides, one skill development university in collaboration with Singapore, a cultural university at Majuli and sports university at Chabua in Dibrugarh have also been taken up, he added.
