Maharashtra govt to probe Sanjay Dutt furlough
Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde said Friday his ministry will investigate the matter.
Sanjay Dutt, who is last seen in the latest film PK, is serving his three and a half years term at the Yerwada jail in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts.
But he is often seen out of the jail, triggering controversies and allegations of preferential treatment to a prisoner serving term in a terror case.
In April 1993, Dutt was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) due to terrorist interactions, and illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 assault rifle. After spending 18 months in jail, he was granted bail in April 1995.
The Supreme Court on Mar 21, 2013 announced its verdict on Dutt for illegal arms possession during the Mumbai bombings that had killed 257 people in 1993 in the nation's financial hub.
Dutt had surrendered in a Mumbai court on May 16 last year.
