Maharashtra Crime: Man gets life term for killing fiancée
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Jul 14 (UNI) A military officer was pronounced guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by the additional session court of Aurangabad in Marathwada region of Maharashtra for setting his fiancée on fire.
According to the prosecution, the culprit was a resident of Pisadevi, who was posted at Siliguri in West Bengal as a Lance Naik.
The culprit, who was identified as Sachin Devman Hanvate, was engaged to the victim on June 17, 2012.
The deceased, whose name was Madhuri Prakash Jinwal, was invited to the accused sister's house for wedding purposes, after which they got into a petty quarrel. In a spurt of anger, he poured kerosine on her and set her ablaze.
She was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to the burn injuries on February 23, 2013. However, before her death a statement was recorded by the magistrate.
As per the statement a murder case was registered against Hanvate, with the CIDCO police, under the section 302 of IPC.
On Saturday Judge H S Mahajan convicted the offender and also slapped a fine of Rs 5000.
