Madan Tamang murder: Kolkata court issues arrest warrant against 23 accused

Kolkata, Jun 6 (IBNS): Accepting the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI)'s appeal, a Kolkata court on Saturday issued arrest warrant against 23 accused persons in the Madan Tamang murder case of Darjeeling.

On May 21, 2010 Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) leader Madan Tamang was allegedly killed by Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) supporters at the Upper Club side area in Darjeeling district of West Bengal.

The CBI had filed the second supplementary charge sheet on May 29, naming 23 accused persons, including top GJM leaders like Bimal Gurung, Roshan Giri and Harka Bahadur Chhetri.

The CBI also appealed to the court to issue arrest warrant against all accused persons.

Judge G.C.Karmakar directed the CBI to produce them to the court before Jun 26.

The lawyer of CBI, Arun Kumar Bhagat told IBNS that the accused persons would be arrested very soon.

"If CBI cannot arrest them before June 26, we will definitely appeal to the court for extension," he said.

Madan Tamang's brother Amar Lama told IBNS that he was very happy after listening the direction from the court.

GJM's central committee member Tilak Chandra Raka and accused's lawyer Sayan Dey said that they would surely move to higher court against this direction.
