Lucknow standoff: At least 2 suspects holed up inside Thakurganj house

Lucknow, Mar 7 (IBNS): After a six-hour long standoff, security forces finally managed to enter the house in Thakurganj in Lucknow on Tuesday, where they suspected that a terrorist was holed up.

However, on gaining access, the security forces reportedly told media that there are at least two terrorists holed up in the house.

While attempts are being made to capture them alive, the terrorists have refused to surrender.

One of the terrorists have been identified as Mohammed Saiful, media reports said.

Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad is still engaged in the operation to flush Saiful and others out from the Thakurganj home.

The area has been cordoned off to capture the terrorists who could be ISIS operative and linked to a train blast this morning in Madhya Pradesh in which nine were wounded.

Reports said the terrorists used "chilli bombs" against the cops engaged in the operation in which some 20-odd commandos are active. The standoff in Thakurganj area near Lucknow was also confirmed by UP police chief Javeed Ahmed.

Senior police official Daljit Chaudhary told media: "Had received inputs about presence of some suspects in Kanpur and Lucknow."

He said one person has been arrested from Kanpur.

The incident occurred at a time when Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to vote in the last phase of polling on Wednesday.

The result is scheduled to be announced on Mar 11.
