Large number of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 52 lakh seized in Mizoram
Aizawl/IBNS: Troops of Assam Rifles have seized a large number of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 52 lakh in Mizoram’s Champhai district.
The security personnel have also apprehended a person in connection with it.
Based on intelligence input, Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles along with the Customs Department of Mizoram had conducted a joint operation at Chhungte village in Champhai district of Mizoram and successfully recovered 40 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes.
A top official of Assam Rifles said that the market value of the seized foreign-origin cigarettes is estimated at over Rs 52 lakh.
Later the apprehended person and seized items were handed over to Champhai district police for further action.
