Kolkata: Woman's body found on footpath

Kolkata, Aug 13 (IBNS): A 25-year-old woman's body was recovered on Saturday from a footpath at Mullick Bazar area in Kolkata, officials said.

According to reports, locals found her body in the early morning on a footpath at the crossing of Alimuddin Street and Ripon Street under Park Street Police Station limits.

"After being informed by locals, police from Park Street PS recovered a body of a nearly 25-year-old woman from a footpath at Ripon Street-Alimuddin Street Crossing near Mullick Bazar," a senior official of the Kolkata Police told IBNS.

Police have started investigation into the matter and the woman's body has been sent for post-mortem.

"Initiating an Unnatural-Death (UD)'s case, police have begun probe into it and our homicide department's officials, along with trained dog, went to the spot to collect evidences," he further said.

The woman's identity has not been known so far.

"After getting post-mortem report, reason behind the unidentified woman's death will be cleared. We are examining CCTV footage at the area to know how did the woman go there or how and by whom her body was taken there," the official added.
