Kolkata: Opponent party councilor beaten by criminals for protesting against eve-teasing

Kolkata, Oct 27 (IBNS): A councilor of opponent CPI-M party was allegedly manhandled by few local criminals for protesting against eve-teasing and extortion at Shibpur area in Kolkata's twin city Howrah on Wednesday night, reports said.

According to reports, CPI-M councilor of Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC)'s Ward-31, Ashraf Jawed, protested against extortion demands and eve-teasing of a local woman in the evening.

Few local anti-socials beaten him up by iron sticks and sharp weapons at night, the councilor claimed.

The CPI-M councilor later lodged a complaint at Shibpur Police Station, followed by which a probe has been started into the matter, police officials said.

No suspect has been arrested in connection with the case so far, till the last update came in.
