Kolkata: CPI Bengal secretary Prabodh Panda passes away at 72

Kolkata, Feb 27 (IBNS): West Bengal state secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) and president of All India Kissan Sabha, Prabodh Panda, died of massive cardiac arrest on Tuesday early morning in Kolkata, party leaders said.

He was 72.

According to reports, he had suffered a cardiac arrest at around 5:30 am. at CPI's West Bengal headquarters at Bhupesh Bhavan in Kolkata's Entally area. Later, doctors pronounced him dead.

Prabodh Panda was born on Feb 7 in 1946 in East Medinipur district of West Bengal.

He  was elected to the Lok Sabha from Medinipur Lok Sabha constituency in a by-election in 2001 and he served the Lok Sabha office as a Member of Parliament for 13 years till 2014.

Prabodh Panda, a member of CPI's national executive committee, was selected as the Bengal state secretary of the party in Feb, 2015.

He is survived by his wife and only son.
