Kolkata: CISF detects 70,000 US Dollar from foreigner at airport
New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Saturday detected high volume of US Dollar from a foreigner at Kolkata airport, an official release said here.
On April 6, around 1055 hrs at Security Hold Area of Kolkata Airport, a CISF personnel noticed some suspicious image, seems to be currency note inside the bag of a passenger.
The passenger’s bag picked was up for physical check. During physical checking, no suspicious items found inside the bag, but the empty bag was found unusually heavy.
The empty bag was again screened through scanning machine and it was found that the currency notes were hidden inside the false bottom. The bag was cut and opened from the bottom, a layer containing eight bundles of US Dollar totalling 70,000 US Dollar or around Rs 47,42,500 were found.
The passenger who was identified as Alom Sah, a Bangladeshi national, who was supposed to travel to Dhaka from Kolkata by a scheduled flight.
On enquiry, he could not produce any valid document for possession of such large foreign currency.
“The matter was informed to senior officers of CISF and Customs officials. Later, apprehended foreign passenger along with the recovered foreign currency worth around Rs 47.42 lakh was handed over to Customs officials for further legal action in the matter”, the CISF spokespersons Hemendra Singh told UNI.
