Kolkata Airport becomes first to install sanitary napkin vending machines in Eastern Region

Kolkata, Feb 16 (IBNS): NSCBI, Airport, Kolkata becomes the first Airport in Eastern Region to install sanitary napkin vending machines in the premises supporting the cause of Menstrual Hygiene and enhancing the passenger`s travel experience especially the ladies passengers, Airports Authority of India at NSCBI Airport, Kolkata has taken a unique initiative.

22 sanitary napkin vending machines have been installed inside the ladies toilets of Kolkata Airport in January.

Explaining the core idea behind this initiative, Airport Director Atul Dikhshit said, “The sanitary napkin vending machines have been installed in the women’s toilet at both departure and arrival levels of the terminal building.”

“These sanitary napkin dispensing machines have been provided for promoting menstrual hygiene and maintaining personal cleanliness factors. It is a good initiative by AAI,” Dikshit added.

The NSCBI Airport has around 60,000 daily pax movements and is expected to cross over 18.9 million footfalls in current Fiscal and it will go a long way in helping women passengers to avail this facility.

The services started in the beginning of 2018 with an average monthly consumption of 30- 40 pads per machines. The total consumption at all dispensers is around 700- 800 pads per month. The cost of each sanitary pad is Rs. 5 only .

The feedback of the customers on this facility is being regularly monitored.
