Kolkata: 2 policemen held for offering bribe to Rahul Sinha

Kolkata, Mar 28 (IBNS): Two officers of Kolkata Police's Special Branch (SB) has been detained on Monday afternoon for allegedly offering bribe to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s National Secretary Rahul Sinha in Kolkata.

According to reports, two policemen- Subhasish Roy Chowdhury and Imanul Rahman- allegedly offered a huge sum of money as bribe to Rahul Sinha at BJP's West Bengal headquarters in central part of the city.

After being informed by the BJP leaders, police from Jorasanko Police station rushed to the spot and held the duo.

BJP National Secretary Rahul Sinha told IBNS, "These two men came to my residence earlier. My personal assistant (PA) told them to meet me in our state office. Today afternoon, they met me and during conversation, they offered me huge amount of money as bribe, in exchange of help in their illegal cow-trafficking to Bangladesh."

"They did not disclose their original identities to me. I immediately called the police and handed them over to the police officials. The duo told the police that they were also cops. OC of Jorasanko Police Station firstly requested me not to lodge complaint against them. But I have lodged complaint against them and will be informing the Election Commission about the matter," he said.

Alleging that it was a conspiracy of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) ahead of Bengal polls, Sinha said, "As we are hitting out the TMC over Narada News sting operation issue, today Trinamool tried to frame me by conducting a counter string operation. They shamelessly used Special Branch officers in this operation, which has been foiled. TMC should know that BJP is not like their party. We never take bribes like TMC."

"Special Branch's ASI Subhasish Roy Chowdhury was carrying a bag. We handed over the bag to police. We are demanding CBI probe into the matter, from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. By handing over the case to the CBI, Mamata should prove that she has no involvement with this incident," Rahul Sinha further said.

According to Kolkata Police sources, after confirming their identities, both accused policemen have been placed under suspension pending a departmental-enquiry into the allegations of Rahul Sinha and they are being interrogated.

TMC leaderships, however, denied their involvement in this incident.
