KK no more: Singer's family arrives in Kolkata, Mamata announces gun salute

Kolkata/IBNS: The family of popular Indian singer KK, who passed away after a concert in Kolkata, arrived at a city hospital where the mortal remains of the icon has been kept.

Krishnakumar Kunnath, who is popularly known as KK, died in Kolkata Tuesday evening after delivering a performance at the city's Nazrul Mancha. He was 53.

One of the most versatile singers of this generation, KK has recorded songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati languages films.

He arrived in Kolkata on Monday for back-to-back performances here.

After his performance at the Nazrul Mancha, he returned to his hotel in downtown Kolkata.

He felt sick there and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead at 10 pm.

The post-mortem of the mortal remains of the singer will be conducted at the SSKM hospital.

Reportedly, KK fell down from his sofa at his hotel room.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is presently in Bankura, Wednesday announced a gun salute for the singer.

"I am in coordination with KK's family. I have already spoken to KK's wife. I am trying to reach Dum Dum Airport where police will give a gun salute," the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister is cutting short her works to return to Kolkata to pay her last respect to the singer.

After the post-mortem, the mortal remains will be taken to the Dum Dum Airport.
