Khadi products sale on the rise, central schemes to boost manufacturing and sales units

New Delhi, Nov 16 (IBNS): Central Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday said that his ministry is implementing central government schemes to modernise Khadi units through the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The minister said that support is being extended to weak Khadi Institutions under Strengthening Infrastructure of Weak Khadi Institutions and Assistance for Marketing Infrastructure.

This is being implemented for the weak Khadi Institutions to attain normalcy and for renovation of Departmental Sales Outlets of KVIC and State Khadi and Village Industries Boards and retail sales outlets of Khadi Institutions to increase turnover of Khadi products through improved marketing infrastructure.

Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) is being implemented to make the traditional industries clusters including Khadi clusters more productive and competitive facilitating their sustainable development, the minister said in his reply.

KVIC has set up interfaces with leading technological institutes to conduct research work under  S&T programme of  KVIC for development of tools, implements and processes involved in production of Khadi.

The minister said in his reply that the sale of khadi products since 2014 has increased.

Khadi products worth Rs 1081.04 crore was sold in 2013-14, which increased to Rs 1510 crore in 2015-16.

For 2016-17, the target has been set for Rs 1810 crore, the minister said.
