Kerala flood: Death toll rises to 167; PM Modi inquires about situation
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 17 (IBNS): The flood situation in Kerala remained critical as 167 people have died so far in the southern state, media reports said.
An alert has been issued in Alapuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Pathanamthitta, NDTV reported.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will visit the southern state on Friday, spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and inquired about the rain-caused flood situation.
The Office of the Kerala Chief Minister tweeted to say, "CM Pinarayi Vijayan spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM inquired about the flood situation. In many places, the rains continue to remain strong and therefore a serious situation exists."

Modi is likely to leave New Delhi for Kerala at 7 pm, media report said.
The flood has been caused by torrential rains, which started on Aug 8.
