Kashmir leader Sajjad Lone meets PM Modi
New Delhi, Nov 10 (IBNS): In a sudden change of his strategies, Jammu and Kashmir's Peoples Conference Chairman Sajjad Lone on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
According to reports, the meeting was held in a very cordial and receptive atmosphere.
The meeting assumes significance ahead of the Assembly polls in Kashmir.
The main agenda of the meeting was an exchange of ideas on the ways and means of developing the state to its full potential.
A series of issues were discussed however the main focus remained the recent floods in Kashmir and the need for swift and concrete efforts towards relief and rehabilitation in its wake.
Party sources told IBNS that Sajad underscored the need to seize the recent adversity as an opportunity and work towards the development of Kashmir as one of the most beautiful places in the world and a premiere global tourist destination.
He also added how it was a unique opportunity to develop Kashmir as the prototype of a Smart City.
After meeting the PM, Lone said the two discussed development of Kashmir, connectivity of roads and he was positive that the prime minister indeed want to make Kashmir the most beautiful place on earth.
He said "the Prime Minister is keen to take personal interest in overall development of Kashmir."
Sources further said that, Modi responded very positively both to the concept of Smart City and that of tourist destination by drawing parallels with the region of Kutch (Gujrat) which too had undergone a disastrous earthquake some years back and had now been transformed into a leading tourist hub.
Party sources said that Sajad Lone also re-iterated the long term development of the state.
In this regard he pointed out the need to leverage the state's natural assets and resources and to cultivate them towards the development of the state - a forerunner being the tourism sector given Kashmir's unparalleled scenic beauty.
Sajjad Gani Lone is the youngest son of Abdul Ghani Lone, who was killed in a rally in Srinagar.
In the 2009 general election Lone fought as an independent candidate in Baramulla but lost to the National Conference candidate Sharifuddin Shariq.
The BJP has shown keen interest to expand its strength in Jammu and Kashmir and even in the Kashmir Valley.
The BJP will be fighting all the 87 Assembly constituencies for the first time in the state now ruled by the National Conference.
