Kashmir : Four policemen killed in militant attack

Srinagar, Aug 29 (IBNS) : Four policemen were killed when militants opened fire on an escort party of the DSP headquarters in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, reports said. 

The incident occurred in Bongam area where the policemen had come to repair a vehicle. After they suffered bullet wounds, the policemen where rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed.

The slain policemen were identified as Javed Ahmad, Muhammad Iqbal, Adil and Ishfaq.

Reports said the militants decamped with the rifles of the cops.

A police team has rushed to the spot to investigate the incident.

Earlier in the day,  two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including a top ranking commander,  were killed in an encounter with security forces

in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Among the slain was commander Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Altaf Kachroo, who was wanted in connection with many terror incidents.
