Jammu/UNI: An exchange of firing took place between security forces and a group of terrorists in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation, however, is in progress.

Defence spokesman on Friday morning said that in a joint operation by Indian Army in coordination with police, the intelligence-based ambushes noticed a suspicious movement in the forest area of Dassal Gujran, near district Rajouri on the intervening night of June 1 and 2.

"On being challenged by troops, they were fired upon which was retaliated by our troops. Sporadic firing continued throughout the night," said the spokesman.

He said that search operations were launched at first light by a joint team.

As per unconfirmed reports, one terrorist is reportedly killed in the exchange of firing.

On May 31, three terrorists were caught with arms, ammunition including Afghanistan-made IED for the first time and narcotics in the Poonch district.
