Karnataka: SC rejects Congress' plea to remove Pro Tem Speaker, orders live telecast of floor test

| @indiablooms | May 19, 2018, at 05:11 pm

New Delhi, May 19 (IBNS): In a new development to Karnataka's political tale, the Supreme Court has turned down the Congress' plea to remove Pro Tem Speaker KG Bopaiah but ordered a live telecast of the floor test, which is scheduled to be held at 4 pm on Saturday.

The top court has said the floor test should be aired on television channels.

As pro tem Speaker, Bopaiah is to oversee the floor test.

After Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala appointed BJP lawmaker Bopaiah as the Pro Tem Speaker on Friday, the Congress had moved the top court and filed a petition on an urgent basis.

Apparently the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular), which formed a post-poll alliance, are in an advantageous position as their total number of seats are well over the majority- mark of 113.

With polling for  two seats yet to be held , reaching 111 would suffice for the BJP, which has 104 seats, to win the floor test for now.
