Kargil Vijay Diwas observes in Nagaland

Guwahati, July 27 (IBNS): The Assam Rilfes , HQ IGAR (North) organised a solemn ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of all martyrs who laid down their life during Kargil War 1999 (Operation VIJAY).

The function was organised at the Memorial of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, the brave officer who laid down his life in the line of duty for the Nation for which he was awarded the Mahavir Chakra, posthumously.      

Major General Sanjay Gupta , Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), all ranks of the formation, villagers and family members of Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurusue, MVC (Posthumous) alongwith ex-servicemen and many school children paid homage at his memorial at Pheza, which is located near his native village Nerhema in Nagaland.

“The function organised by 9 Assam Rifles was attended by various civil dignitaries,” Lt Colonel Amitabh Sharma, PRO, HQ IGAR (North) Assam Rifles said.

“Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC, of Nerhema village was born on 15 July 1974. He did his schooling at St Xavier School, Jalukie and graduated from Kohima Science College. He served as a teacher at Govt High School, Kohima from 1994 to 1997. He was later commissioned into the Indian Army on 12 Dec 1998. He attained martyrdom during Kargil War on 28 Jun 1999 while destroying enemy bunker and killing four enemy soldiers,” Lt Colonel Amitabh Sharma said.

The ceremony included wreath laying by Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Late Captain N Kenguruse, MVC, IGAR (North) and other officials.

It was followed by a prayer ceremony conducted by Pastor Vinanyli. Subsequently, the audience was addressed by Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Late Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse who conveyed that the whole family is very proud of their Son.

The MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu lauded valour of the brave martyr from his constituency, exhorted the youth to follow his footsteps and serve the nation with pride and honour. 

Saluting the martyr for his exceptional act of bravery Major General Sanjay Gupta said that Late Captain N Kenguruse, MVC, is a source of motivation and inspiration to all ranks of the Armed forces and exhorted the youth of Nagaland to follow the motivation level of this great Son of Nagaland and work hard to achieve their destiny to lead a life of honour, pride, dignity and contribute to the growth of society, state and our Nation.
