Kaliganj blast: Tamanna Khatun's mother rejects TMC MLA's monetary support, demands arrest of all culprits

Kolkata/IBNS: The mother of the minor girl who was killed in the bomb blast during the Kaliganj by-election vote counting has refused to accept the money offered by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Debra, Humayun Kabir.

When Kabir on Wednesday reached the house of 13-year-old Tamanna Khatun, her mother Sabina Yasmin refused to accept the money, burst into tears and demanded arrest of all culprits involved in the blast.

When Kabir offered the money, Sabina shouted at him saying, "This is for what? Don't do such things."

Kabir told media, "I run a non-political organisation. I haven't come here as a politician. We should not see this through the lens of any political colour. All people should rise in protest against the incident."

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari slammed the ruling party saying, "Tamanna's mother took the right decision by declining the offer. She is truly a brave woman."

As per reports, TMC supporters celebrated the party's win in the by-election by throwing a crude bomb at a CPI-M supporter's house.

One of the bombs exploded near Tamanna who went to bathe in a nearby pond. She died of her injuries.

The incident happened in Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station jurisdiction in the Nadia district.

Five people have been arrested so far. Police said forensic experts collected some articles including a 'white substance', 'hair clips with blood stains' from the spot where Tamanna was killed.

The articles will be sent for chemical examinations, said police who are waiting for the results to arrive.

'You will do nothing': Tamanna's mother to police

Tamanna's family has already demanded an investigation into the case by India's federal probe agency CBI.

When a cop tried to console Tamanna's mother Sabina claiming arrests would be made, she showed no confidence in the police.

"You will do nothing," Yasmin told a cop bluntly.

Mamata directs police to take action

Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday asked police to take "action" against the culprits.

The Chief Minister posted on X, "I am shocked and deeply saddened at the death of a young girl in an explosion at Barochandgar in Krishnanagar police district. My prayers and thoughts are with the family in their hour of grief.

"Police shall take strong and decisive legal action against the culprits at the earliest."

'Blood price of Mamata's vote bank politics'

Slamming Mamata, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell head Amit Malviya wrote on X, "... This is the blood price of Mamata Banerjee’s violent, vote-bank-driven politics. West Bengal has no law and order left. Mamata Banerjee, ironically the state’s Home Minister, has failed spectacularly as an administrator.

"Worse, she fuels radicalised politics to polarise and retain her Muslim vote bank—only for innocent children like Tamanna to pay with their lives. This is not governance. This is criminal neglect."
