Jharkhand students march to assembly today: JPSC row escalates despite govt action

The protest comes after multiple rounds of talks between the student representatives and the state government failed to reach a conclusive settlement.

Students from across Jharkhand join protest

Students from different parts of the state have reached Ranchi by trains, buses and other vehicles to participate in the mega march against the Jharkhand government, which is led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance.

The march is scheduled to begin at 11 am.

Security tightened, barricades erected

With the administration on high alert, barricades have been erected at key intersections across Ranchi to prevent the protesters from reaching the Assembly.

Security has also been heightened, with a large number of police personnel deployed across the city.

Government agrees to cancel three JPSC exams

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand government has agreed to cancel three examinations conducted by the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and undertake a major overhaul of the commission.

Members of the commission resigned on Sunday following the state government's meetings with two separate delegations representing the protesting students.

The government, headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has also agreed to involve the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a probe into the alleged financial irregularities.
