Jayalalithaa under supervision of UK doctor at hospital, speculations end

Chennai, Oct 1 (IBNS) : A specialist doctor fro the UK has been flown in to Chennai to attend Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who has been undergoing treatment i a hospital for more than a week, media reports said quoting her party.

This dispelled rumours about her health which had been doing rounds. However, no present photos of the Chief Minister have been released, as was suggested by M Karunanidhi, opposition DMK chief.

"She is recovering well. We hope she is discharged soon. It is not necessary to release pictures of Jayalalithaa. We are answerable only to people, not the opposition," a party spokesperson told NDTV..

The last medical update on the 68-year-old Jayalalithaa's condition was provided by Apollo Hospital on Thursday night when it said she was "responding well" to treatment but had been advised to stay in hospital for a few more days.

Her party had said earlier this week that she was likely to return home on Friday.

Media reports on Saturday had said that Dr Richard John Beale has arrived in Chennai to consult with  Jayalalithaa.

Throughout her hospitalisation, the AIADMK has shot down reports that the Chief Minister, a former movie star and one of the most popular and powerful politicians in the country, is seriously unwell.

The AIADMK  has said she has been treated for fever and dehydration.

But lack of inforation gave rise to rumours about her health condition which promoted Karunanidhi to demand that the Government put an end to all this by releasing a photograph of her in hospital.

The AIADMK  has filed four police cases against people who misreported her condition on social media.
