Jammu and Kashmir: SMC councilor, PSO killed, another councilor injured in Sopore attack

Baramulla/UNI: A councilor of Sopore Municipal Committee (SMC) and his Personnel Security Officer (PSO) were killed and another councilor was injured in a militant attack in apple township of Sopore in this north Kashmir district on Monday, a police spokesman said this afternoon.

He said militants fired at SMC office at Sopore in which councilor Reyaz Ahmad Mir and a police personnel Shafqat Ahmad were killed and another councilor Shams-ud-din Peer was injured.

The injured councilor Peer was rushed to local hospital from where he was referred to Srinagar.

Troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) , Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF immediately cordoned off the entire area and launched a massive search operation. Further details are awaited.

Traffic on the main Sopore and business and other activities were affected due to the attack.
