Jammu and Kashmir: Police arrest 2 for selling banned Chinese 'Manja'

Jammu:  Police on Saturday busted a gang selling kite flying Chinese 'Manja' with the arrest of two persons in Akhnoor area here in the city outskirts.

Station House Officer, Police Station Akhnoor, Hilal Azhar said that in a drive against Chinese Manja (Gattu) sellers subsequent to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Jammu and directions of SSP Jammu, Police on Saturday arrested two accused persons namely Vijay Kumar of Lehar Sungal, Tehsil Akhnoor and Rajesh Sharma of Arya Samaj Gali, Tehsil Akhnoor, District Jammu and with 142 bundles of Chinese Manja (Gattu).

A case was registered and investigation started.

"The Deputy Commissioner Jammu has issued an order wherein selling of Chinese Manja has been banned as the thread is endangering the human life which is being used for flying kites," he added.

The Sub Divisional Police Officer, Akhnoor, Varun Jandial has appealed the public not to use, buy or sell Chinese Manja and instead use traditional kite flying thread.
