Jammu and Kashmir: NIT Srinagar hosts virtual lecture on ‘Role of data analytics in marketing’

Srinagar: Department of Humanities Social Science and Management (HSS &M), National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Friday organised virtual lecture on ‘Role of data analytics in marketing’ and it was hosted by Khalid Wani, Director, Western Digital (WD) leading global data storage brand in India.

According to a statement issued here, the session was attended by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Sehgal, Registrar NIT Prof. Kaiser Bukhari, HoD HSS&M Prof Abdul Liman, faculty members, students of various departments of NIT Srinagar, University of Kashmir and Central University of Kashmir. On the occasion, Director NIT, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal appreciated the department for organising lectures on current market trends and emerging techniques.

“The prevailing pandemic in the world led to its significant growth in digital marketing techniques, digitisation and more data resources were developed among the global companies,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal said following global trends, there is a shift in consumer preferences to big markets to local businesses that are yet to be explored by the students.

“Data is becoming more valuable for people and playing a vital role in our lives. Our students have to work and explore more opportunities in this sector,”he said.

Registrar NIT Srinagar Prof. Kaiser Bukhari said data is the power and one of the factors to lead the marketing world. If we have good data then we can accelerate.

Future of data lies in innovation, technology and information. While appreciating organisers, Prof. Bukhari said the primary aim of this lecture was that students would be updated with current market trends and NIT Srinagar will be hosting such lectures in future also.

Visiting faculty at department of HSS &M, Khalid Wani shared his experience with Industry, deliberated upon in enhancing significance of data in the present global context. He highlighted the importance of data in modern economic structure and how data is becoming the new oil to fuel the next industrial revolution.

“Being a visiting faculty, I will be hosting more interactive sessions in future for students to explore the opportunities in the global market. It will be helpful for students passionate about analytical finance, analytical marketing and creative technology,” he said.

Wani has gained vast experience of working with renowned global brands General Electric, IBM, and Lenovo.

Finally, he settled at Western Digital, where he has been working for the last 14 years. HoD Department of HSS&M Abdul Liman hailed the efforts of Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Sehgal for supporting them in organizing such events in the department.

The session was moderated by Coordinator MBA, Dr. Tahir Ahmad Wani and a highly engaging and interactive lecture was concluded with a question-answer session by the students.
