Jallikattu: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to meet PM Modi tomorrow
Large number of people have gathered at Chennai's Marina Beach to demonstrate and demand for permission to host the banned bull-taming festival-Jallikattu- in Tamil Nadu.
Protests are being held in other parts of Tamil Nadu.
"Honourable Chief Minister Thiru O.Pannerselvam to meet PM Modi tomorrow to urge ordinance on Jallikattu," the AIADMK tweeted.
The Chief Minister of the state has also urged youth and protesters to give up their protest.
The AIADMK quoting the Chief Minister tweeted: "Tamil Nadu Government will continue to take necessary steps to ensure holding Jallikattu."
According to media reports, around 3000 people have assembled at the beach since Tuesday night to demonnstrate and demand for lifting the ban over the traditional sports.
The state Government on Wednesday held talks with agitators and assured them of holding the sport.
The Government told the agitators that if required, the matter would be taken up with the President seeking an ordinance allowing the game to take place.
The Supreme Court in May 2014 banned Jallikattu, traditionally held as part of the four-day Pongal festival in Tamil Nadu.
However, politicians of different parties pleaded with the Centre to amend the concerned law so that Jallikattu can be conducted while stars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Simbu extended their support in favour of the sport.
