New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is giving a new pace to the country's development.

"Jal Jeevan Mission is giving new impetus to the development of the country today," the PM wrote in a tweet.

He further said the way tap water connections reached crores of households in the last 3 years is a great example of public aspirations and participation.

Modi also shared details of the progress of JJM which is being implemented under the Jal Shakti Ministry along with his tweet.

The PM had announced the JJM on Aug 15,2019, with the aim to provide tap water supply to every rural home and public institution by 2024, to enhance ease of living of people.

Since the announcement of JJM, so far, more than over 6 crore households have been provided with tap water connections, thus increasing the tap water supply from 3.23 crore to more than 9.40 crore rural households in the country, it said.

The budget for JJM for 2022-23 has been enhanced to Rs 60,000 crore.

To plan and prepare for water supply work on such a scale, and to appraise stakeholders on the road ahead, on Feb 23, a post-budget webinar was held.
