Jakhalabandha police arrest most wanted rhino poacher

Guwahati, Aug 18 (IBNS): Assam police have arrested a most wanted rhino poacher from Jakhalabandha area in Assam’s Nagaon district on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

The arrested rhino poacher was identified as Bidya Rongfar.

Based on intelligence input, a team of Jakhalabandh police led by Officer-in-Charge Nipu Kalita and a forest team of Bagori forest range under Kaziranga National Park had launched operation and arrested the rhino poacher from his residence at Jakhalabandha area.

According to the police, the arrested poacher was involved in several rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga National Park.

Officer-in-Charge of Jakhalabandha police station Nipu Kalita said that, he was radar of police and forest officials since long time.

“Last night, the Jakhalabandha police and Bagori forest had jointly launched an operation and arrested a most wanted rhino poacher from his residence. During the preliminary investigation, we have found that, he was involved in several rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga,” Nipu Kalita, Officer-in-Charge of Jakhalabandha police station said.

The police officer further said that the arrested rhino poacher was also involved in rhino horn trading.
