The first batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrims, who are travelling through Nathu La route, joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of Yoga by performing the postures in Bainang County, located in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Sharing images of the pilgrims performing Yoga, Indian MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X: "Yoga for health, peace and harmony."

"The first batch of ‘Kailash Manasarovar Yatra’ Yatris via Nathu La route, performed Yoga to mark the #InternationalDayofYoga2025 in Bainang County in Tibet Autonomous Region, while on their way to perform the holy Yatra," he said.

After five years, a group of Indian pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was flagged off last week.

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, will tak place from June 2025, and will go on till August 2025.

The International Day of Yoga, marked annually on 21 June, celebrates this timeless practice that nurtures body and soul.

It was first proposed by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

Recognizing yoga’s universal appeal, he suggested the Summer Solstice - 21 June - as a symbolic date.

With 177 UN member states co-sponsoring the resolution, the proposal received overwhelming support, and the Day was first celebrated in 2015, starting a global wellness movement, the World Health Organization website said.
