Indian maritime forces on high alert following terror attacks in Sri Lanka

Rameswaram, Apr 22 (UNI) The Indian maritime forces were kept on high alert along the South-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu after a string of powerful bomb attack that killed more than 200 people in Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Official sources said today security measures along the entire south-eastern coastline was stepped up by Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in coordination with the Coastal Security Group (CSG) of Tamil Nadu Marine Police to thwart any infiltration bid via sea route by the perpetrators of the terror attack in the Island nation.

The Indian Navy and ICG have intensified patrolling along the International Maritime Boundary Line in view of Rameswaram town’s close proximity to Sri Lanka.

Security was stepped up in the famous Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Health in Velankanni in Nagapattinam district, besides all the vital installations located along the entire coastline.

Armed police personnel were posted in more than 20 landing points along the coast.
