India requests UK for Vijay Mallya's extradition
In a statement to the media, MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, “Have extradition treaty with Britain and legitimate case against Mallya. We made a request, but now it’s for British authorities to take further action."
In November, the CBI initiated an extradition request to bring back Mallya from the United Kingdom through a Special Court in Mumbai.
Mallya is facing a CBI probe for defaulting on repayment of loans worth over Rs 900 crores taken from IDBI for the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines of which Mallya was Chairman.
The State Bank of India, which leads the consortium of 17 banks that lent money to Kingfisher Airlines, had moved Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) in Bengaluru to recover the money.
The investigative agency had secured a non-bailable warrant against Mallya, following it with an extradition request from the Special Court, to competent authorities in the United Kingdom.
