India must do more to maintain peace in border areas: China

| | Oct 31, 2014, at 03:44 am
Beijing, Oct 30 (IBNS): Cautioning India over reports that it is planning to construct 54 new border posts along the border in Arunachal Pradesh, China on Thursday said it hoped that its neighbouring nation does not take actions that may complicate the situation in the area.
"On your second question, we have noticed relevant reports. Disputes still exist in the eastern part of the China-India border," Defence Ministry spokesman Yang Yujun said in a press conference.

"We hope that the Indian side does more for maintaining peace and stability in this area and does not take actions that may complicate the situation," Yujun said.

Speaking further on the 'dispute' on the eastern part of the China-India border, he said: " I think that the roads built by the Indian side you are talking about are in the eastern part of the China-India border, and I have just mentioned that the eastern part of the China-India border is a disputed area.China’s position on the disputed area is clear and consistent. It is an important consensus reached by the two sides to maintain peace and stability along the line of actual control and both sides should make joint efforts to go in a converging direction."

"And on the recent border affairs consultation between China and India, you were talking about the conference held in mid-October in New Delhi on border affairs and coordination mechanism. During the meeting, lots of consensus were reached on maintaining the stability along the China-India border area, and some measures that have been agreed to be taken during the meeting also involved the Chinese military," he said on the recent border affairs consultation between the two nations.

"And along the line of actual control, there will be more meeting points set up and the headquarters of the two militaries will be linked by a hotline, and telecommunication channels will also be set up between the frontier defense units of the two countries, etc. I think these agreements reached during the meeting are very positive in improving China-India relations, and they are also concrete measures to put into practice the Joint Communiqué signed and other agreements reached by the two sides during the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India in September," Yujun said.

"They will help strengthen communications and interactions between the two militaries, especially between the border defense troops of the two countries, so as to deal with border issues in a timely and proper manner," he said.
