India in tit-for-tat to China allows Uyghur leader to attend Tibetan Meet

The move of India to grant visa to Isa is seen as China's blocking of a ban on terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad head Masood Azhar in the United Nations.

 

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told Indian news agency PTI that while they are not aware of the move, but "what I want to point out is that Dolkun is a terrorist in red notice of the Interpol and Chinese police. "

 

"Bringing him to justice is due obligation of relevant countries," Hua was quoted by the agency saying.

 

 MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup when asked by journalists said he is still ascertaining facts. "I cannot give you anything till I have facts," he said, adding that the programme (in Dharamsala) is not organized by MEA. 

   

"We have told China that in matter of terrorism there should be no double standard," he said. 

 

Dolkun Isa is a Uyghur activist from the region of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of northwestern China, also known as East Turkestan. He backs there the rights of the largely Islamic minority which makes up the majority population in that region. China has termed him a terrorist.   

 

China earlier blocked in the UN, India's move to ban Pathankot terror attack mastermind Pakistan based Masood Azhar, inviting strong protest from India.  

 

Meanwhile, the 19th round of talks between special representatives on the China-India boundary question was held here on April 20.

 

In a briefing in Beijing, the same spokesperson of China Foreign Ministry said: "Chinese Special Representative and State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with his Indian counterpart, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. They had extensive, in-depth and candid exchange of views on the boundary question, bilateral relations, and regional and international issues of common interest. Special Representative Doval also conveyed greetings from Indian Prime Minister Modi to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. Premier Li Keqiang will meet with Special Representative Doval this afternoon.

 

" I want to stress that the special representatives' meeting is a major channel for the two sides to resolve the boundary question which was left over from history. The two sides enhanced mutual trust and expanded consensus through this meeting which is of great significance in promoting settlement of the boundary question, maintaining peace and tranquility of the border areas and securing sound and stable development of bilateral relations."
